Council reacts to funding settlement announcement
Telford & Wrekin Council says it is still examining the detail of the potential four year funding package for local councils which was announced by the Government today.
The council believes that the announcement is broadly in line with what is expected, with the cut to its government grant still expected to be about £30m over the next three to four years.
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Finance, said the council will now wait for the actual details to be released.
“We will be revealing details of wide ranging budget proposals early in the New Year but they will inevitably lead to changes in a number of key services – the fact is cuts have consequences,” said Councillor Carter.
“We will be holding an extensive consultation on these proposals which formally begins on January 8 and runs until February 7.
“This will include our budget team going to meetings of a wide range of interested bodies as well as holding two formal public budget sessions on Thursday January 19 at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place.
“As part of this consultation, we will be exploring with parish and town councils, voluntary organisations and other partners how we can work better together to try to minimise the impact of cuts on services. “We are also asking people for their ideas on how we can make other savings.”
