National hockey event in Telford this weekend
An exciting sporting event is taking place in Telford this weekend as a National hockey event takes place at Phoenix Sports and Leisure Centre based at the Langley School in Dawley.
The England Hockey event ‘Super Sixes’ will see the top women’s teams from across the country travel to Telford to compete in the two day event over the weekend (12/13 DEC).
A further Super Sixes event will then take place at the Phoenix Sports and Leisure Centre on 9 and 10 January.
The top four teams from the Super Sixes tournament will then qualify for the National final at Wembley Arena at the end of January 2016.
This is a major booking not only for Leisure Services but also for the Council and Telford as a whole as it will bring supporters and teams into the area who will take advantage of the many fantastic services that the borough has to offer.
Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for Leisure Services and Culture, said: “This is excellent news for the borough. England hockey have clearly seen the top class leisure offer that we can provide and are keen to host a national tournament presenting us with an exciting opportunity to showcase the excellent facilities that we have to offer.
“But even more than that, these events in December and January will bring people to the borough, some that have probably never visited the area before, which is a great boost to services and business in the area.
“And as we continue to grow, our ability to host national sporting events such as this is only going to increase.
