UK Youth Parliament member takes part in Commons debate
Jamie Graham, Telford and Wrekin’s UK Youth Parliament lead member, went to the House of Commons to take part in a national debate.
The UK Youth Parliament was deciding which topics it would select as its official campaign for the coming year and the event was attended by 450 people.
New College student Jamie represented Telford and Wrekin by taking part in the speeches. The debate ultimately chose two new campaigns: Tackling racism and discrimination and improving mental health services for young people.
Jamie said afterwards: “We are really looking forward in Telford to be working on these issues over the next year.“These also match with the results of our local Make Your Mark Ballot, so you can expect a campaign that young people of Telford & Wrekin voted for.”
This year’s work has been on mental health and there will be a young person’s day on the subject on February 17, with the theme of Stress-Less. This is a day for young people to participate in activities to help them destress also looking at techniques to help with this.
