Turnaround community fun day huge success
Hundreds of people living in Brookside and the surrounding areas attended a community fun day recently, organized by the Turnaround Project.
Turnaround is part of Job Box and offers short programmes for young people aged 16-24 who are not in employment, education or training.
The community fun day at the end of October saw residents take part in activities such as arts and crafts, bat box making, pumpkin carving ready for Halloween and cake decorating, as well as circus skills and a show from the animal man.
While the day was aimed at having fun and taking part in activities, it was also an opportunity for local residents to learn about the services available to them through Turnaround and Job Box.
Lyndsey Price, the Turnaround engagement worker who organised the event, said: “There was a really good turnout at the event and it was great to see the community coming together to take part in all of the activities on offer.”
Cllr Gilly Reynolds, cabinet member for Employment and Skills, added: “Apart from the fun aspects of the day, people could also find out about Job Box and Turnaround services, as well as services such as Landau, Talent Match and the NHS.
“There was also a stall where small start up businesses had the opportunity to sell their products.
“There are a lot of services in the borough available for our community to help them increase their skill set and find employment and days such as this help to promote those services.
“Thanks to all those who came along, the parents and children, the providers, stall holders and especially the volunteers, who helped to make the day the success it was.
