Pupils in Telford schools dining in unusual locations
Telford & Wrekin Council’s catering service has planned a series of events to mark National School Meals Week in November by inviting pupils to dine in unusual locations.
The pupils from Lawley Academy will have a Picnic lunch on the Telford Steam Railway on Wednesday November 4; they will travel by train from Horsehay Station to the newly opened Lawley station
Longnor Primary School will be providing different themed menus daily all week.
Six pupils from Hollinswood Primary and Old Park Primary Schools have been invited to dine at Southwater Library on Thursday November 5; they will be enjoying a roast dinner with all the trimmings.
Also on Thursday November 5, Dawley CE School will be having a playground party tucking in to jacket potatoes and a choice of hot fillings.
On Friday November 6, Newdale Primary will be having lunch on top of the Wrekin. The catering team have drafted in the support of S/SGT Scrimgeour and L/CPL Lloyd from 159 Company Telford detachment and 101 Battalion to assist in the transportation of the equipment to provide the hot lunch.
This is just a few of the events that are taking place in schools that meals are provided for by Telford and Wrekin.
Councilor Paul Watling, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Children and Young People, said: “This is an opportunity to celebrate all that is good about the food that our Catering Teams provide for our pupils and I am sure everyone who take part will enjoy the chance to eat a school meal somewhere a bit unusual.
“National School Meals Week is the one week a year where the school meals industry celebrates all that is great about school food.
“The Lead Association for Catering in Education has organised the week for the past 21 years with many memorable moments.
“It is about more than just a week of theme days – it is the one week in the year when all eyes are on the school meals industry and we celebrate all the great things school caterers have been doing all year.”
