Torvill and Dean tour comes to Oakengates Theatre
This year’s panto at Oakengates Theatre features one of the stars of ITV’s Dancing On Ice – now tickets are on sale for a special show featuring Olympic ice skating gold medallists Torvill and Dean.
The legendary duo are appearing in a 15 date UK theatre tour this winter where they will talk to fans in an intimate setting about their fascinating career and give their own side to various stories that have appeared in the press down the years.
“Our Life On Ice – In Conversation With Skating Legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean” follows the publication of their much anticipated autobiography Torvill & Dean: Our Life On Ice – which is published on 9 October.
The show comes to Oakengates Theatre @ The Place on Friday 5 December – four days before current Dancing On Ice star Matt Evers takes the stage for the first time in this year’s panto Beauty and the Beast.
Tickets for the tour went on sale this morning (Fri 26 Sept) and are priced £40, which includes an exclusive edition of the book which is only available at the live shows. Tickets are available on The Place website or by calling the box office on 01952 382382 or can be bought in person from the theatre.
The pair said: “We are both very much looking forward to the UK tour that will combine our love of being on stage in front of our fans with the publication of our autobiography.
“The fact that we won’t be on the ice might seem strange at first but it will give us the chance to meet the people who have supported us over the past 30 years in an intimate setting where we can share our stories live in front of theatre audiences.”
Theatre manager Debbie King said: “Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are much loved by their fans and it is a fantastic honour for Oakengates Theatre to be one of the 15 venues to host their nationwide theatre tour.
“I am sure that the tickets for such a special show will sell very quickly and we are very much looking forward to the evening. It provides the perfect forerunner to our panto and ties in brilliantly with Matt Evers being the star of Beauty and the Beast.”
Torvill and Dean won gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo with judges awarding 12 maximum scores of 6.0 with 24 million viewers watching back home in the UK.
The pair kept their lives private in the face of intense media speculation that they were a couple both on and off the ice. They turned professional and would eventually spend 10 glorious years working on ITV’s Dancing On Ice.
The book sees the legendary duo open up about the challenges they face and the pressures of life in the public eye.
Telford’s panto Beauty and the Beast runs from 9 December to 5 January and tickets can be bought through the same routes as the Torvill and Dean show – on The Place website or by calling the box office on 01952 382382 or in person from the theatre.
