Residents urged to consider volunteering

Volunteering can have a number of benefits including helping those who take part to gain new skills, make new friends and do something positive for someone or your community.

There are lots of opportunities to volunteer in Telford and Wrekin and a number of roles are listed at a new online portal http://www.volunteertelford.co.uk/

Opportunities can range from stewarding at one off events, being a “befriender” to a young person leaving care or supporting an adult with a learning difficulty to learn new skills in woodwork or craft.

For most roles, experience is not required and new skills are learned while carrying out the role.

Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Employment and Skills, said: “Volunteering can be great fun and very rewarding and the new skills and experience which are learned can help the volunteer gain new employment or get a university placement.

“Whatever the reason there’s sure to be something on offer to suit you. In turn you could help make a real difference to someone else’s life.”

Those who apply online via the new portal will be contacted to discuss opportunities in more detail.
