They will be joined by Chris Perkins,  Executive Principal for Lawley Village Academy, who will represent the new sponsors of the academy, REAch2 WM Academy Trust.

REAch2 is the largest primary-only academy trust in the country and is a growing charitable organisation currently supporting some 35 primary academies across England.

Lawley Village Academy is the last in the series 13 of schools procured through the Council’s £200m Building Schools for the Future legacy programme.

Work to prepare the site in Lawley began earlier in the year and the turf cutting will mark the beginning of building works.

The new academy is due to open to pupils in January 2016 and will cater for 210 pupils.

Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for children, young people and families, said: “The turf cutting marks the start of building works on the new primary academy in Lawley.

“The new academy will provide much needed places for local children in a growing community.

“The BSF project is building momentum now and work on the new secondary school building across the borough is progressing well.”

Stuart Fanshaw, Construction Director for Shepherd said: “We are delighted to be starting on site at the new Lawley Village Academy.

“The new academy signifies a change in the way learning environments are created and Shepherd is proud to be supporting this transformation alongside Telford & Wrekin Council.”

The funding for the Lawley Village Primary Academy has been provided by the Lawley Village Consortium, comprising Barratt Homes, Charles Church, David Wilson Homes, Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey.
