Two weeks to go until the Job Box skills festival
Telford & Wrekin Council’s Job Box service is counting down to its first Partnership for Careers skills festival in two weeks’ time, on Thursday 19 March.
The Partnership for Careers skills festival will be attended by 40 local and national employers from a range of skill sectors including engineering, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, IT, business, professional and many more.
There will be a range of interactive activities for those attending the skills festival to try out to give a flavour of the various careers on offer.
The skills festival is aimed at school and college students, as well as anyone else who might be considering a career change.
Twelve months ago, the Council launched The Job Box at its first Partnership for Jobs fair.
The Job Box service pulls together a range of education, training and employment support and its services have guided many local people into employment and new life phases
The Council has invested £1.3m in a two year programme which is working to reduce unemployment levels in the borough, particularly high levels of youth unemployment.
As a result of the measures taken by the Council as a part of the Job Box, youth unemployment in Telford and Wrekin has fallen by about 50 per cent in the last year.
The skills festival has been made possible by the success of last year’s Partnership for Jobs fair, which will be repeated this year on Wednesday 18 March.
Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Employment and Skills, said: “We’re really pleased to be introducing the Partnership for Careers skills festival this year.
“The skills festival will introduce our local young people to the careers available in the area and the paths into these.
"I would urge all Telford and Wrekin schools and parents to ensure that their young people attend this event – it’s never too early for our young people to start to think about their future career.”
The Partnership for Jobs fair will be open 11am–7pm on Wednesday 18 March 2015 at The International Centre.
The Partnership for Careers’ Skills Festival will be open from 10am–7pm on Thursday 19 March, also at the TIC.
