Council and Police to demonstrate commitment to keeping children and young people safe
Telford & Wrekin Council and West Mercia Police are to demonstrate their commitment to keeping children and young people safe when it marks National Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Day.
Staff will be at Southwater One, on Wednesday 18 March, promoting and raising awareness on where to go to get help and support.
Laura Johnston, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Director of Children and Family Services, said: “This is a national campaign aimed at highlighting child sexual exploitation, encouraging everyone to think, spot and speak out against abuse and adopt a zero tolerance to adults sexually exploiting children.
“We are also developing a local pledge to gain support from across Telford & Wrekin to show our commitment to ending child sexual exploitation. The pledge will be available to sign at Southwater One.
“I would encourage anyone who is aware of a young person that may be at risk of exploitation to do the right thing and contact Telford & Wrekin Council’s Family Connect service on 01952 385385.”

In 2012, seven men from Wellington were jailed for a total of 49 years for a variety of offences relating to child sexual exploitation, as a result of a West Mercia Police operation prompted by information supplied by Telford & Wrekin Council.
