Hollinswood regeneration work gets under way
Construction work has started on Telford & Wrekin Council’s £2.5m regeneration of Hollinswood Local Centre as part of the Pride In Your Community programme of social and economic improvements.
A final consultation event will be held between 3-6pm at Hollinswood Community Centre on Thursday (March 26) to display the latest plans before building work starts.
New shops are to be built to improve the appearance and atmosphere of the centre following the acquisition and subsequent demolition of the Woodcutter pub.
The council has been in negotiations with the tenants of the shops and the owners of the three flats for surrender of their respective properties. The shop tenants will relocate into the new shops when they are constructed.
The local community centre is also going to be refurbished so that the building blends in with the new development.
The scheme may include alterations to the entrance, a small extension, refurbishment of the hall and toilets together with external cladding works.
The council also intends to relocate a new Activity Hub for Adults with Learning Difficulties. This second phase of the regeneration will be funded by the disposal of three existing properties elsewhere in the borough.
Telford & Wrekin Council also intends to upgrade a poorly lit, frequently vandalised underpass by removing graffiti and improving lighting and landscaping entrances.
Councillor Bill McClements, cabinet member for Finance and Enterprise, said: "I am delighted that construction work is about to start on the new shops development at the Local Centre in Hollinswood.
"This scheme will improve Hollinswood’s links to the town centre and provide better access to town centre employment opportunities.
"I hope local residents will come along to the final consultation event on Thursday to view the final plans."
