Residents turn out in force to clean Telford Town Park
Residents marked the first day of spring by turning out in force to help clean up Telford Town Park.
A total of 35 volunteers collected 20 bags of rubbish as part of a bid to get the Park looking the best it possibly can before a series of high profile summer events.
Items collected during the Spring Clean included a freeview box, a car tyre and old clothing.
Volunteers who turned up to help included representatives of the Friends of Telford Town Park. They were provided with all the necessary equipment as well as refreshments and slices of cake.
They were also given a thank you card and a packet of seeds to plant in their own garden in time for the summer.
Major events planned for the Town Park this year include
- Spring Into The Park on Saturday (28 March)
- Carnival of Giants on Saturday June 6
- Boyzone playing live in the QEII Fields In Trust Town Park Arena on Saturday June 27
- T-Party with a sporting theme on Saturday July 18
Councillor Liz Clare, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Leisure Services and Culture, said: "This was an excellent event which demonstrated the local community’s love for their Town Park.
"It was a lovely bright day and I was delighted with the turn out and the positive attitude from everyone who attended. It was great to see such a wide range of ages among the volunteers as well.
"We’ve got a number of exciting events lined up for Telford Town Park in the next few months and we wanted to ensure the park was looking the best it possibly can and I think we’ve done that."
There will be further events going forward including the clean-up and installation of a new community bench seating by young people in Brookside play park on Tuesday 31 March.
There will also be a clean-up and family activity day in Brookside including litter picking, re-painting railings of play park, wildlife design T-shirt printing and face painting activity on Wednesday 1 April:
