Emergency works needed on Castle Farm Way

Telford & Wrekin Council is to fully reconstruct the section of Castle Farm Way in Priorslee after planned resurfacing works revealed significant carriageway failure below the surface of the road.

Emergency works needed on Castle Farm Way

This will mean 24 hour traffic management for six weeks while the work is carried out – beginning after 9am on Tuesday 7 April.

This essential work includes closure of the southbound lane from Limekiln Bank to Castle Farm Interchange. All traffic leaving side roads will be able to join Castle Farm Way and head north.

A signed diversion will be in place for drivers that wish to travel south on Castle Farm Way.

Angie Astley, Telford & Wrekin Council’s assistant director of Neighbourhood and Customer Services, said: "Local residents and drivers have shown great patience during the northbound closure this week on Castle Farm Way and we apologise for the inconvenience that this additional work will cause.

"We have worked with our contractors to agree a way of working which does not involve side roads being closed but does still mean the work will be completed as quickly as possible.

"By doing this essential and unexpected work now, we won’t have to return to carry out further major maintenance work in this location for a long period of time.

"In addition, the work that we are doing will resolve ongoing issues of noise and vibration that we know have been a concern to residents."

It became apparent during the past week’s resurfacing works that the bottom layer of the carriageway has failed and is no longer a suitable foundation.
