Castle Farm Way to re-open ahead of schedule

Telford & Wrekin Council is set to re-open Castle Farm Way six days ahead of schedule on May 9.

Castle Farm Way to re-open ahead of schedule

The emergency works to fully reconstruct the road have been stepped up to include road closures to enable the work to be done quicker than originally planned.

Residents are being urged to sign up to email alerts for live updates on closures, which they can register for at www.telford.gov.uk/cfway

Work had to be undertaken after a planned resurfacing programme revealed that the carriageway had failed and needed completely reconstructing.

The extensive reconstruction of the carriageway will also address issues raised by residents about excessive noise and vibration on the road and will mean no more maintenance is needed for a long period of time.

Already completed is the base course laid from the Salisbury Avenue junction to the Priorslee Avenue junction.

From Monday, (APR 27) access to Priorslee Avenue will be restricted for up to three days although the exit onto Castle Farm Way from Priorslee Avenue will be unaffected.

The final phase of work will start on Tuesday 5 May and will last five days. To carry out this work as quickly and safely as possible, junctions onto Castle Farm Way have to be closed for one day each.

The timetable for these closures is as follows:

Tuesday 5 May:

  • Salisbury Avenue/Castle Farm Way junction will be closed 9.30am-3.30pm for final surfacing works. Access will be via Gatcombe Way and Hereford Drive.

Wednesday 6 May:

  • No closures.

Thursday 7 May:

  • Collett Way/Castle Farm Way junction will be closed 9.30am-3.30pm for final surfacing works
  • Lakeside Garden Centre Polling Station: Access via Gatcombe Way, Hereford Drive and Salisbury Avenue. Route will be clearly signposted.

Friday 8 May:

  • Two way traffic reinstated between Priorslee Avenue and the M54. Still no access onto Castle Farm Way at Limekiln Roundabout.
  • Gatcombe Way/Castle Farm Way junction will be fully closed between 9.30am-3.30pm for final surfacing works.

Saturday 9 May:

  • Priorslee Avenue/Castle Farm Way junction fully closed from 7.30am for final surfacing work
  • Traffic using Castle Farm Way will not be able to access Priorslee Avenue but a diversion will be in place
  • Traffic passing the Priorslee Avenue junction will be maintained as two way. However temporary two way lights will be needed due to final resurfacing works

Angie Astley, Telford & Wrekin Council’s assistant director of Neighbourhood and Customer Services, said: "We know that the emergency repair work on Castle Farm Way has caused some disruption and inconvenience for people and I would like to apologise for this.

"We have pulled out all the stops to get the work done as quickly as possible to minimise delays and I am pleased that we will be able to complete the project six days ahead of schedule.

"I would like to thank everyone for their patience while the work has been carried out. The latest updates are available by signing up to email alerts at www.telford.gov.uk/cfway"
