Volunteers work thanked
Telford & Wrekin Council is using Volunteers’ Week as an opportunity to recognise and thank all the volunteers who work so hard and with such passion in their community.
Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK and it’s taking place this week (1–7 JUNE).
The Council is also using the Week to spread the word about all the volunteering opportunities that are available and the benefits that volunteering can bring.
On 6 June, at the Carnival of Giants, in Telford Town Park, there will be a ‘Big Lunch’.
The ‘Big Lunch’ is an opportunity for friends, family and neighbours to come together and have a picnic.
Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council Cabinet Member for Communities, Regeneration and Transport, said: “If you're a volunteer why not get a group of fellow volunteers together with a picnic and have fun at this unique and exciting event!
“We’re really proud of all of the hard work that our volunteers put in across the borough and we want to thank them all for their time and effort this Volunteers’ Week.
“We have a lot of volunteering opportunities, across the Council and borough, and I’d encourage anyone thinking about volunteering to visit our dedicated website.
“Our Pride in Your Community programme is encouraging volunteers to ‘Get Involved’.
“Look out for events taking place in your area that aim to improve where you live – clean-up days, bulb planting, markets and other environmental activities that will bring communities together.
“The success of the campaign is down to you, your friends, family and neighbours and the more people who get involved the more we can achieve.”
The Volunteering website is regularly updated and those interested should keep a watchful eye on the website for opportunities in both volunteer week and in the future: http://www.volunteertelford.co.uk/
