Moves to bring historic hall under full planning control
Telford & Wrekin Council is set to take steps to prevent the immediate demolition of one of the few surviving structures that represents the origins of Hadley and Haybridge.

Haybridge Hall is disused and has fallen into disrepair and is now under threat of being demolished by its owner.
In January, the council’s planning committee refused an application for its demolition and the construction of four bungalows on the site because the plans would result in the loss of an "architecturally distinguished" building.
Since then, the applicant Wrekin Housing Trust’s agent has stated it is their intention to demolish the building through the submission of a prior approval application.
A report to Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet meeting on June 25 says::"It is considered that the uncontrolled demolition of the locally listed building would result in the loss of a local landmark and building of local historic importance."
Cabinet is therefore being asked to remove permitted development rights for demolition – meaning any demolition would require full planning permission.
"This would allow the council to properly assess the significance of the building and consider the proposed demolition on its full planning merits," adds the report.
Councillor Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for housing, said: "This does not prevent further redevelopment of the site including possible demolition.
"But it does allow us to fully consider the wider implications of the works and ensure that the views of others are taken fully into account before a decision is taken.
"If cabinet give this their approval, it ensures the developer has to come back with a detailed plan on their proposals to a full planning committee."
