The concert was the third year running that Telford & Wrekin Council had put on a major gig in the arena and this was the most successful to date.

In conjunction with promoter the Liz Hobbs Group, the council was delighted to welcome the tuneful foursome of Ronan, Shane, Mikey and Keith to the perfect natural bowl that is the arena.

Boyzone were supported by Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha and local band The Rooz – with all three acts rapturously received by the Telford crowd.

Fans of all ages - including a number of hen parties - travelled from all over Britain for the gig, with some dedicated souls waiting from as early as 3.30am at the front of the queue.

Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet lead for Major Events, said: "Saturday was an absolutely fantastic day for Telford and will really put us on the map as a destination that can hold gigs of really top acts.

"The final figures are still to be confirmed but I am quietly confident that the event will have returned a profit – although it has never been solely about making money.

"It was great to see the Telford public supporting a major gig like this and all three bands put a huge smile on the faces of the watching thousands. We had a great party atmosphere and no trouble at all.

"I would like to thank our crowd for their fantastic support and we will now start to think about next year and what acts might be available.

"I would also like to thank the local business community for their fantastic support in providing more than £50,000 worth of sponsorship for the events."

Sponsors included Telford Shopping Centre, the University of Wolverhampton, Fitzgeralds, Red Touch Media and Telford Tigers, Telford and Wrekin Services, Lovell Partnerships Ltd, Wroxeter Wines and Mercedes, Shrewsbury.

Screen advertising included Telford & Wrekin Council’s fostering team and music service, Bellway Homes, Martin Kaye Solicitors, Molson Coors, Granville Construction, Christine’s Florists, Rybrook Mini, AFC Telford United, Enchants Dance and Dawley Town Hall.
