Crucial Crew students learn about safety
Nearly 2000 Year Six students from Telford and Wrekin attended a multi agency partnership event aimed at raising children’s awareness of important safety issues.
The Crucial Crew event took place over 13 days at Buildwas Abbey Sports and Social Club.
Crucial Crew is aimed at 10-11 year old children and is designed to provide them with life skills and knowledge that will help keep them and others safe in the future.
The event featured 10 scenarios designed to provide the students with education in safety essentials in preparation for their next stepd up to secondary school.
Councillor Paul Watling, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: "This has been a fantastic event which has seen nearly 2000 children receive guidance on what to do in a number of potentially unsafe situations.
"I would very much like to thank Eon for use of their site and their funding contribution towards the event. I would also like to thank West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner Bill Longmore for his funding contribution to the event and local Parish Councils for their funding contribution. .
"Finally, thanks to all our partners that have supported this year’s event. Without them, it would not be the success it is year after year."
Partners that attended included Western Power Distribution (electricity safety), PDSA (keeping safe around dogs), West Mercia Police (anti social behaviour and street wise), School Nurses (who to call), Royal Life Saving Society (water safety), Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (fire safety) Local Safeguarding Children Board (Trusted Adult), Telford & Wrekin Council (Road Safety and Alcohol Awareness).
