Free checks available at Community Health Day

Leading Telford and Wrekin councillors and civic dignitaries will be attending a Community Health Day at the Whitehouse Hotel in Wellington on Sunday August 2.

Borough mayor Councillor Leon Murray and mayoress Barbara, council leader Kuldip Sahota and Councillor Lee Carter, cabinet member for Finance and Service Delivery, will all be at the event.

It is being put on by the Telford Seventh Day Adventist Church and entry is free with hot and cold drinks available. It runs from 11am-6pm.

People attending can take advantage of free health checks including cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, free health advice from doctors and nurses free giveaways.

A number of organisations will be present at the event including the Shropshire Islamic Foundation, doctors and nurses from various disciplines, the British Heart Foundation, the Terence Higgins Trust, the Stroke Association, the CCG, Future Fit, Age UK and Health Watch.

Councillor Sahota said: “Last year’s event was a huge success and I am delighted that the community is pulling together to put it on again. “This year’s focus is on empowerment through engagement with the community and I am looking forward to a good day on Sunday and a big turn out.”
