What will keep you healthy, safe and independent?

Telford & Wrekin Council is inviting residents to complete an important survey which will help to plan key services in the future.

What will keep you healthy, safe and independent?

Are you healthy, safe and independent? is the Council’s survey asking for the views of a wide range of people to find out what help, if any, people are receiving from social and health services.

The Council also wants to know what difficulties people have in relation to being healthy, safe and independent and what help people do receive, or could receive in the future from family, friends, neighbours and local groups.

A new law, the Care Act 2014, is asking local Councils to think about how people can be more in control of their own lives by feeling happy, healthy and safe with less support from services and more support from others.

Telford & Wrekin Council has been given less money by the Government to spend on local services. This means that there is a need for more people to be cared for and supported by family, friends and their local communities.

If this happens, health and social services will then be in a better position to offer the right support at the right time to those who need it most.

Councillor Richard Overton, cabinet member for Housing, Public Health and Protection, said: “To help plan, we need an understanding from local people of what will help them to be healthy, feel good, be safe and be in control of their lives.

“We know that being positive about these things reduces the need for health and social services both now and in the future.

“By completing this survey local residents will be helping us to bring our plan for the future together and offer a package of services that complement and enhance care for everyone in the borough with a need.

“Whether you are using Council services now or not, it’s important for us to hear from you, so I urge people to take a few minutes to complete the survey, the results really will make a difference.”

The consultation is online nohttp://www.telford.gov.uk/behappyhref="http://www.telford.gov.uk/behappy">www.telford.gov.uk/behappy and will be available to complete until Friday 25 September.
