Free childcare places for two year olds

Telford & Wrekin Council wants to remind parents of two year olds in the borough that they might be eligible to benefit from 15 hours of free childcare a week.

Free childcare places for two year olds

Early education and childcare is crucial to a child’s development, giving them the opportunity to learn, thrive and play.

It helps to equip young children with the skills they need to do well when they start primary school.

Children can take advantage of the hours through a place with a childminder, at a nursery or a school that accepts two year olds. The Council has numerous facilities registered to accept two year olds, with spaces available.

Many people could be claiming these free places but don’t know they are entitled to them.

Those who are unemployed, work part time or are on a low wage may be entitled to claim this provision for their two year old.

Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “Early education is essential for the development of young children and these places give them the opportunity to learn and play.

“Many people in the borough could be claiming these free hours and don’t realise it, if you’re unsure, I’d recommend you get in touch to find out.”

If your child is two between 1 April – 31 August, then they are entitled to a place this September and if they are two between 1 September – 31 December, then they are entitled to a place in January 2016.

If you want to chat about whether your child is eligible give us a call on 01952 385423 and we can check. You will need to tell us your national insurance number, date of birth and your surname and we can tell you there and then whether they are eligible.
