Record Breakers Challenge is breaking records
With a week of the summer holidays still remaining, this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, with the theme Record Breakers, has become record breaking with more children than ever before taking part.

Currently almost 1700 are busy in their quest to read six books over the summer holidays to complete the challenge and receive their medal.
To celebrate the success of the Summer Reading Challenge and the children taking part, the Telford & Wrekin Library Service is hosting two special performances by international best-selling author and poet Gez Walsh.
Gez’s poetry is best described as comedy set to rhyme. His most famous collection ‘The Spot On My Bum’ is one of the best-selling collections of children’s poetry of all time.
The two performances take place on Saturday 12 September at 10.30am and 12.30pm. Tickets are free and are available from The Place Box Office on 01952 382382, Southwater Library and Newport Library.
Tickets are limited so it’s important to get them soon to avoid disappointment.
Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Libraries, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is a fantastic way to keep children reading throughout the long summer holidays in a fun and interactive way.
“It can also improve children’s reading range, as well as their motivation and confidence.
“The library service in Telford and Wrekin offer a phenomenal range of fun activities which inspire and motivate our young people to expand their abilities and knowledge.
“These performances by Gez Walsh are sure to be a fun way to end what has been the borough’s most successful Summer Reading Challenge yet”
