It’s TACT Recovery Month
Telford After Care Team (TACT) are participating in National Recovery Month to raise awareness of potential of recovery and the services available to support people in their ongoing recovery from using drugs or alcohol.
The purpose of TACT is to ensure there is a clear and safe programme of recovery options available for people who use substances.
As part of Recovery Month this September, TACT, volunteers, service users, family, friends and other service providers and partners will be participating in events to raise awareness and understanding among both substance users and members of the public.
TACT aims to:
- ensure people are aware of the variety of solutions available both locally and nationally and the ‘open door’ and ‘never turn anyone away’ approach that TACT provides
- challenge the views of the public and reduce the social stigma and common misconceptions that are portrayed towards those with drug and alcohol problems
- raise awareness of what it’s like to be in recovery and the help available to achieve getting into recovery
- promote the laws and social policies that reduce alcohol and drug related issues and support recovery for those who are experiencing these
Councilor Richard Overton, cabinet member for Housing, Public Health and Protection, said: “We have to raise the profile of services such as this in the borough.
“There is a lot of help available for people with drug and alcohol issues, and getting that message out there so people know how to access these services will help people take that first step to getting into recovery.
“Recovery Month is also an opportunity to raise awareness and understanding for members of the public to view substance misuse differently.”
In Durham, where the annual UK Recovery Walk is taking place on the 12 September, service users from Telford will be taking part in a sleepover the night before in Durham Cathedral, being joined the next day for the walk by a further coach full of service users from Telford.
In Telford, TACT will be hosting a Recovery Conference at The Place Oakengates Theatre on Wednesday 16 September.
A local Recovery Walk will also be taking place on 26 September, starting at Southwater One and finishing at Meeting Point House, where participants will be able to enjoy food, drinks and entertainment.
