Training opportunity for childminders

Childminders will have a great training opportunity next month when Helen Moylett visits the borough to present two excellent sessions.

The training day will take place on Saturday 10 October at Meeting Point House and is designed to help childminders in a home based setting help children develop their skills.

The first course ‘Playing with Maths’ aims to promote numeracy, recognising all those everyday activities that have mathematical significance that can be used to support and extend children’s mathematical learning in fun and exciting ways.

The second course ‘Ready, Steady, Go to School’ aims to promote school readiness.

The course will address what exactly school readiness means and how childminders can use their knowledge to better facilitate the transition to school through development of the children’s skills, again using fun and exciting activities.

The day is also an opportunity to network with other childminders from across the West Midlands and access an excellent professional development opportunity.

Playing with Maths takes place from 9.30am-12.30pm and Ready, Steady Go to School follows in the afternoon from 1.30-4.30pm.

Each session costs just £30, or book for both courses for only £50.

Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “All our childminders have great development opportunities and support on offer through Telford & Wrekin Council, and these courses complement that training and development brilliantly.

“We are currently busy recruiting childminders to cope with the huge childcare demands in the borough and anyone thinking of taking the plunge can easily see that there is a great network out there to develop the skills and qualities necessary to be a confident, successful childminer.”

These two courses are open to childminders both in and out of the borough and click here to book your place.
